Marina Vasconcelos Obituary And Death – The University of Delaware community is mourning the tragic loss of Marina Vasconcelos, a 24-year-old graduate student who was killed in a heartbreaking car crash on Main Street in Newark on April 29, 2025. Marina, a native of North East, Maryland, was struck by a stolen U-Haul van during a chaotic incident that left many in shock. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver, Gordon Turner, faces multiple charges, including attempted murder.

Marina was a dedicated and brilliant biochemistry graduate student, well on her way to making a significant impact in the field of medical research. She was in her third year at the University of Delaware, where she was working on pioneering research related to Crohnโ€™s disease, a chronic condition affecting millions. Marina had already secured funding for her research and had expressed her desire to work as a medical science liaison, using her scientific knowledge to improve communication between the medical and pharmaceutical industries.
